Spotify has launched a lighter version of its Android app today called “Spotify Lite”. The app is designed for people with older smartphones and less data access.

The app itself is only 10MB compared to over 100MB for the original app version. You can listen to music as usual on the app but you can also set a data limit and receive notifications when you reach the desired threshold.

Spotify Lite also lets users clear their cache with just a tap so if storage is an issue this will greatly help keeps this clean while listening to music.

Spotify Lite also features a streamlined design change where users’ libraries are replaced with “favourites”. It is here where you will find all saved songs and playlists.

The app has begun rolling out in Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa on the Google Play Store. It requires Android 4.3 and higher. Spotify claims the app is meant to live alongside the main app and users should choose the one they think would be better for them.

Spotify Lite is no the only “lite” app around. Facebook Lite, Instagram Lite, and Uber Lite are also designed to deliver the same services and be smaller and more data-conscious. Download the app here.

“Spotify Lite was built from the ground up based on user feedback from around the world, allowing millions more to enjoy the world’s best music experience — especially in areas with limited bandwidth and phone storage,”
