Square Enix is working on a next-gen action game which has everyone talking. Could it be a new Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy or maybe something new? According to a job listing on the publisher’s website, it is actually a new IP aimed at the next generation of hardware including the PS5 and Xbox Scarlet and the publisher’s First Development Division is leading the charge on production.

The unannounced new IP is being created by an “international team of creators” and the game is said to be a “next-gen action game experience” which will serve as a step forward when compared to the present framework of action-based games. No other details were listed.
We know the Square Enix First Development Division is the major team at the studio. They are the ones responsible for games like Kingdom Hearts 3, Final Fantasy VII Remake, SaGa RE: Universe and others. If it is a big triple-A release, the development team worked on it. They are currently working on Final Fantasy VII Remake and now it seems the next-gen game too.
Of course, we won’t see this game for a while with next-gen only set to release by the end of 2020. Square Enix has quite a long development cycle for its big releases so we might see it teased next year with a possible release years after that.
If we take the studio’s past tech demo, Agni’s Philosophy, it was above and beyond this generation’s visuals. If this is anything to go by, Square Enix will deliver a visually breath-taking next-gen game that will rival some of the biggest engines in gaming.

We will have to see what they are cooking up for the PS5 and Xbox Scarlet hardware in the months ahead.
