Squid Game Season 2 Confirmed by Show Creator

Squid Game season 2 has officially been confirmed by the show’s creator Hwang Dong-hyuk in a recent interview with the Associated Press. Unfortunately, he didn’t reveal any timeline or release date for “when and how” it’s going to happen, but given the massive success of the first season, a second season was an inevitability.

Squid Game exploded into popularity this year thanks to its intriguing premise involving hundreds of players competing in a life-or-death string of children’s games with deadly outcomes. Skyrocketing to one of the most watched shows in Netflix’s history, it was only a matter of time before a second season of the South Korean series would move forward, and that seems to already be happening.

Hwang Dong-hyuk spoke to the Associated Press about the second season of Squid Game, confirming that it will be back, though it’s still in the process of being written. He stated:

“There’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season. So I almost feel like you leave us no choice! But I will say there will indeed be a second season. It’s in my head right now. I’m in the planning process currently. But I do think it’s too early to say when and how that’s going to happen.”

Given the early stages of the second season’s planning, it’s unlikely that we’ll see a new season for at least a few more years. Unfortunately, this also means that no specific date or release window was given as it sounds like most of the finer details still need to be sorted first. The first season did somewhat leave a sequel open to happen, but whether it will have the same impact remains to be seen. We’ll keep you updated on more news about its second season.
