STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl has been delayed yet again, this time pushing the anticipated first-person shooter to September 2024. Developer GSC Game World calls this the “final release date”, seemingly acknowledging the game’s history of multiple delays and setbacks.
GSC Game World posted a statement on Twitter/X (which has now been removed but documented by GamesRadar) confirming a new release date for STALKER 2: 5 September 2024. The studio also gave fans an explanation behind the delay, stating that the game was “below the expected standards.” GSC Game World will use the extra time in development to polish the shooter and make sure it’s up to its quality standards.

The statement provided by GSC Game World reads:
“Throughout the frankly challenging development process, we understood the time was of the team’s main essence. Seeing the scope of polishing and understanding that we can’t push your patience too much, we were absolutely dedicated to releasing the game in Q1 2024, and we worked extra hard to meet the release window. That, however, doesn’t change the fact that at the beginning of this year, we still witnessed the certain amount of technical imperfections that hold Stalker 2 below the expected standards for the final experience our fans are waiting for.”
This week, new screenshots for STALKER 2 were released showing the game’s overhauled HUD and stunning visuals. The developer confirmed back in December that the shooter was in the final stages of development and committed to an early 2024 release window, which isn’t the case any longer.
The official description for STALKER 2 reads:
“Chornobyl Exclusion Zone has changed dramatically after the second massive explosion in year 2006. Violent mutants, deadly anomalies, warring factions have made the Zone a very tough place to survive. Nevertheless, artifacts of unbelievable value attracted many people called S.T.A.L.K.E.R.s, who entered the Zone for their own risk striving to make a fortune out of it or even to find the Truth concealed in the Heart of Chornobyl.”
STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl will launch on 5 September 2024 for Xbox Series X/S and PC. Check out the new release date trailer below:
