Star Wars Eclipse is 3-4 Years Away as Quantic Dream Struggles to Find Staff

The Game Awards played host to a major new announcement in the form of Star Wars Eclipse. The much-rumoured new Star Wars game is being developed by Quantic Dream, the same studio behind games such as Detroit: Become Human and Heavy Rain. According to a new report, while the studio announced the project, it is still very far away and might not release before 2025.

Insider Tom Henderson claims that Star Wars Eclipse is being written by Quantic Dreams Paris. He also says that David Cage is heavily involved in the project. However, the most interesting bit of information comes from the game’s already-struggling development cycle. Henderson says that the project is still 3-4 years away.

One of the main reasons why the game is so far off track is due to the lack of staff at Quantic Dream. Henderson says that the studio is currently “struggling” to hire staff for the project and can’t seem to fill positions.

For those who don’t know, Quantic Dream has been deemed an “unfit” studio to work for after years of controversy. In 2018, reports of a toxic workplace started to rise from the studio, Employees claimed that management would use inappropriate words and overwhelm staff with crazy workloads.

It gets worse. In 2017, employees claimed that management was photoshopping images of staff members to display racism, sexism and homophobia. Some images even included staff members wearing Nazi uniforms. David Cage was at the centre of this drama as allegations claimed he threw inappropriate slurs at female colleagues.

After reporting on the news, French publication Le Monde was sued by Quantic Dream for the reports. Quantic Dream also ended up suing Mediapart for also investigating and reporting on the toxic workplace. In late 2021, Quantic Dream won its case against Le Monde but lost against Mediapart.

And so here we are. Fast forward a year later and Quantic Dream has a terrible reputation. Not only do gamers hate the company but developers refuse to work at the studio due to the ongoing controversy. It makes it worse that Quantic Dream ended up suing a news outlet for simply reporting on the truth too. While the new Star Wars Eclipse game looks great (from the CG trailer we watched), the game has an uphill battle ahead of it as it fights the drama.
