Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Survivor director Stig Asmussen is leaving EA and developer Respawn Entertainment. Asmussen was a key factor in the success of both Star Wars Jedi games, particularly its strong direction and cinematic quality.
Asmussen is best known for directing both 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order as well as 2023’s Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, but he also previously directed God of War 3 for Sony Santa Monica Studio. According to a statement from an EA spokesperson sent to Bloomberg, Asmussen has decided to leave EA and Respawn in order to “pursue other adventures.”

The statement from EA regarding Asmussen’s departure from the company reads:
“After careful thought and consideration, Stig Asmussen has decided to leave Respawn to pursue other adventures, and we wish him the best of luck. Veteran Respawn leaders will be stepping up to guide the team as they continue their work on Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.”
Back in June, Respawn Entertainment began hiring for roles that strongly hinted at a third Star Wars Jedi game moving ahead in development, which is no surprise considering the massive critical and commercial success of the first two games. It’s unclear who will replace Asmussen as the director on the third game, though EA has assured that veteran leaders at Respawn will be “stepping up to guide the team” on Survivor and potentially the next project.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor launched earlier this year to strong reviews though its PC version attracted a lot of criticism due to its numerous bugs and performance issues, some of which were also present on the console versions. Respawn also confirmed last month that PS4 and Xbox One ports of the game were on their way but didn’t give an estimate for when players can expect it to release.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is now available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
