South Africans looking at picking up Star Wars Jedi: Survivor this week are in luck. According to sources, the local retail launch is on track for Friday, 28 April. The news arrives after the game’s release was in limbo following the termination of EA Games’ distribution contract with Prima Interactive.
I have received word that the game will land in stores on Friday which marks the official street date for the anticipated sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Unfortunately, while the game’s release is good news, there’s still nothing that could have been done to avoid the steep price tag. As it stands, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor does cost substantially more money physically in SA than it does in the digital stores.

The game will set you back R1,399 for the standard edition on both Xbox Series X/S and PS5. The Deluxe Edition costs R1,799. However, the digital versions cost R1,069 and R1,350 respectively.
Keep in mind that reports claim the physical version of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor still requires a hefty download in order to play. This means even if you pick up the disc version, you’ll need to download the game files before you can play it.
The future is still a bit uncertain for South Africa when it comes to physical game launches like these. If the digital store is R300 – R400 cheaper, it is going to be a tough sell for gamers looking at their cheapest options. I do suspect there might be a digital store price increase on the cards in the months ahead which might align these prices a bit closer together (sad face).
