Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic Remake is still in development, according to developer Saber Interactive. The game was first announced back in September 2021 during a PlayStation Showcase with both Aspyr and Saber Interactive attached to the project as co-developers. However, Aspyr dropped away, leaving Saber Interactive as the sole developer. After months of silence and speculation that the game had been cancelled, the studio has now provided a brief update on its status on Star Wars: KOTOR Remake.
Saber CEO Matthew Karch recently spoke to Game File where he confirmed that Star Wars: KOTOR Remake was still in active development, though claimed that he could not say more. Following the interview, Saber Interactive COO Tim Willits also suggested on social media that it was still in development.
“Saber Interactive is one of the largest independent developers in the world,” he wrote. “We are working on numerous games across many different genres. Everything that we have talked about is still in development. We will share information on upcoming games when we have something cool to share.”
The original Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic was released in 2003 and developed by BioWare, set 4,000 years before Star Wars: A New Hope and the rise of the Galactic Empire. The game is often praised as one of the best RPGs of all time, with an emphasis on storytelling and player agency. A sequel, Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic II – The Sith Lords was released in 2004 and developed by Obsidian Entertainment, which got an equal amount of praise from critics and fans at the time.
There have been multiple reports at this point concerning the status of Star Wars: KOTOR Remake. Back in November 2023, a rumour claimed that the game wasn’t being worked on at the time, possibly due to Embracer Group selling off Saber Interactive a few months later. It seems like the project is still on track, though it’s anyone’s guess when it will actually release.
