Star Wars Outlaws isn’t going to take up as much of your time as Assassin’s Creed. Ubisoft recently revealed that the game will take around 30 hours to beat if you gun for the main story, while completionists are looking at a playtime of between 50-60 hours. The company also discussed some content that was cut early in development.
Speaking to Video Games Chronicle at Summer Game Fest, Star Wars Outlaws creative director Julian Gerighty explained that the game won’t be too long but it’s not exactly a short adventure either. At around 25 to 30 hours to beat the main story and 50-60 hours to do everything that the game has to offer, Gerighty stated that it’s not meant to be as imposingly long as something like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey – a game with a playtime that can easily stretch into the triple digits if you explore everything.
Gerighty explained:
“Very, very early on, we decided this is going to be a 25, 30 hours golden path adventure, 50 hours, 60 hours for completionists, and that is, for a guy with a family and a job, it’s still a fair amount of time. But it’s not Assassin’s Creed epic, 200 hours worth of gameplay, so that allows us to really focus on the detail, it allows us to focus, maybe with a smaller team, on executing something that is manageable.”
Gerighty was then asked if anything was cut or removed from Star Wars Outlaws early in development. He explained that swimming was one of the features that was unfortunately removed.
“So, for example, removed – we wanted swimming, like the first few iterations of the pitch that we did, we’d have loved to have had swimming. It’s not possible, animation said, it’s not possible in terms of the scope. So, OK, we can live without that, we’ll do without it, there’s plenty of other things that we can explore.”
Star Wars Outlaws launches on 30 August 2024 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Make sure you check out our exclusive preview.
