Starfield is Bethesda’s Priority and Elder Scrolls Fans Need to Be Very Patient

At last year’s E3 at the end of the Bethesda Press Conference which was pretty lacklustre, the publisher pulled us all in with those big teases, one for Starfield and one for The Elder Scrolls VI. Let’s face it, everyone and their Khajiit is excited for the next entry in the Elder Scrolls franchise but it won’t be shown at E3 this year and the game is a very long way off. Starfield is also a very long way off and now, Bethesda has confirmed that they are creating Starfield first, which means Elder Scrolls fans will have to wait a very long time.

Bethesda Game Studios’ executive producer, Todd Howard, recently spoke about Starfield and The Elder Scrolls VI in an in-depth interview with IGN which you can view in full at the bottom of this article. Speaking about the next Elder Scrolls game and the gap between Skyrim and TES6, Mr Howard explained (as transcribed by PC Gamer) that:

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”#33fff6″ class=”” size=”25″]I think everyone should be very patient. The gap in between is going to be long, It already is. On one hand, I think it’s good to miss things. I think that makes people come to it with really, really fresh eyes, and I think when they eventually – eventually – see the game and what we have in mind, they’ll understand the gap more in terms of technology and what we want it to do.[/perfectpullquote]

One of the main reasons why Elder Scrolls fans have to be very patient is that Bethesda wants to create Starfield first both for themselves creatively as well as for their audience. Mr Howard explained that:

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”#338dff” class=”” size=”25″]We’re creatives, and it’s like, we have to make this game, and this is the time, and so Elder Scrolls 6 is going to have to wait a little bit. And again, Elder Scrolls Online is doing so well, it’s so vibrant, that this is the time [for Starfield], both for us creatively, and our audience.[/perfectpullquote]

It will be interesting to see what Bethesda does show at E3 this year as it won’t be The Elder Scrolls 6. Maybe, just maybe, Starfield will at least get a mention.
