Starfield Possibly Delayed Out of First Half of 2023 – Report

Xbox and Bethesda have set a date of 25 January for an upcoming Developer Direct showcase, promising updates on Redfall, Forza Motorsport and more. However, Bethesda’s highly anticipated sci-fi RPG Starfield will not be at this event as Microsoft is planning to host its own dedicated showcase for the game soon. Despite the developer reassuring fans that it’s still on track to launch in the first half of 2023, a new report suggests that it might’ve been slightly delayed out of this window.

According to MrMattyPlays during a recent episode of Defining Duke Podcast, who usually has insider information regarding Bethesda releases, Starfield is getting bumped out of the first half of 2023 because it has not been dated yet. Thankfully, it doesn’t seem to be a major delay as it’s still targeting a summer release, which is between June and August. The leaker says that the source who divulged this information to him has been spot-on in the past and hasn’t been wrong before.

Starfield getting bumped out of the first half of 2023 makes sense as the first six months of the year are already stacked with big releases, including Bethesda’s own Redfall. Launching in June would also pit Starfield against major releases like Street Fighter 6, Diablo 4 and Final Fantasy XVI so fans are speculating it will launch in either July or August. That said, Starfield is one of the most anticipated releases of the year and (probably) shouldn’t have a problem rubbing shoulders with the aforementioned titles in June.

Of course, we still recommend taking this with a pinch of salt until we get some official confirmation from Xbox and Bethesda.

Starfield was originally planned to release in November 2022 but got delayed to give Bethesda Game Studios more time to polish the game. Bethesda releases are notorious for buggy launches so the studio is probably taking extra steps to make sure it’s not a technical mess.

Starfield is currently in development for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
