Bethesda’s upcoming first-person sci-fi RPG will not be releasing on PS4 and PS5 according to a new report. GamesBeat claims that its source, who is familiar with the development and release plans for Starfield, says the game is an Xbox and PC exclusive.
This report backs up some previous information that was outed a while back by Jeff Grubb who also tweeted out saying that “Starfield is exclusive to Xbox and PC. Period.” While the game is still under lock and key and supposedly set to showcase itself during E3 2021, the closer we get to the event, the more we are hearing about the game’s Xbox exclusivity.
Xbox boss Phil Spencer said back in March that the Bethesda acquisition, which completed earlier this year, was done to add exclusives to the Xbox platform. This includes PC. However, he was never clear on whether or not this situation would apply to games already in development before the company bought Bethesda. More importantly, Starfield and The Elder Scrolls VI.
Starfield is exclusive to Xbox and PC. Period. This is me confirming that. https://t.co/j78Msk8nyG

Jeff Grubb seems quite confident in his statement that Starfield is indeed an Xbox exclusive. However, we will have to see what happens when E3 2021 rolls around. It makes sense for Microsoft to lock the game into the Xbox ecosystem. Sony and Nintendo would do the same thing for their games.
Maybe it is about time Microsoft gets selfish about its property. Not only will this move make the Xbox platform more attractive for users but it will also grow Game Pass. Also, it is not like Xbox is rolling in games to play that are exclusive to the platform. Especially the Xbox Series X.
