Bethesda Game Studios has revealed the story and plot events of its upcoming sci-fi RPG, Starfield, ahead of its launch next month. Starfield marks the first single-player game from the Skyrim developer since 2015’s Fallout 4 and promises to be feature-rich with an absolutely enormous open-universe sandbox stacked with over 1000 planets to explore. The game’s narrative also promises to be grand in scope and now we finally have an idea of the story timeline leading up to launch (quite literally) thanks to the new chart.
Bethesda recently updated the official Starfield website with a timeline chart called “The Story So Far.” Important milestones in Starfield‘s story are marked by years on the chart, starting from the year 2050 when humans first touched down on Mars all the way to 2328 when humanity has achieved incredible feats of technology and is now traversing space and establishing colonies across the stars.

The story timeline also highlights important characters and name-drops a few that might play an important part in the narrative of Starfield, including the frequently-mentioned Sarah Morgan and Barrett. In 2330 AD, the events of Starfield begin. There’s quite a bit of content to read through so we suggest checking out the entire chart for all the details and potential teasers.
In related news, Microsoft is reportedly ready to ramp up the marketing for Starfield with an interactive launch event, though it’s unclear what form this will take. To catch you up with the story, setting and lore, Bethesda also released a few short animation videos to get you hyped up.
Unfortunately, Starfield is still under a month away from launch as it arrives on 6 September 2023 for Xbox Series X/S and PC as well as day one on Xbox Game Pass. In the meantime, check out this list of great space exploration games to keep you busy while you wait.
