Developer Shift Up has confirmed that Stellar Blade 2 is officially in development and might be releasing sooner than expected. The first game is set to launch on PC next month with a bunch of new content that will also be added to the PS5 version for free. However, it looks like Shift Up had already beeen quietly working on a sequel to the game.
In Shift Up’s latest financial results, a graph showing the company’s future plans mentions “platform expansion” and a “sequel” for Stellar Blade. The platform expansion part could refer to the upcoming PC port (though some Xbox players are still hopeful that it might get ported to Microsoft’s console too in the near future). Interestingly, Shift Up’s plans specifically mention releases between 2024 – 2027, suggesting that Stellar Blade 2 could release as soon as next year.
This would be an extremely fast development turnaround for a modern AAA game. Even if it launches in 2027, it could still be considered a fast development period, especially with how long modern AAA games tend to be in the works.
Shift Up’s financial results also offered another exciting bit of information: it’s also working on another unannounced game codenamed “Project Witches”, previously said to be an “urban sci-fi action RPG.”
Stellar Blade launched last year exclusively on PS5, going on to sell 1 million copies worldwide. Shift Up expects that the game will sell much better on PC, largely thanks to the wider audience reach as well as the various mods that PC gaming affords.
The game’s description reads:
“The future of humanity is balanced on the edge of a blade. Ravaged by strange, powerful creatures, Earth has been abandoned, and what is left of the decimated human race has fled to a Colony in outer space. After travelling from the Colony, EVE arrives on the desolate remains of our planet with a clear-cut mission: to save humankind by reclaiming Earth from the Naytiba – the malevolent force that has devastated it.”
Stellar Blade launches on 12 June 2025 for PC.
