The upcoming PS5 exclusive action game, Stellar Blade, has received an 18+ adults-only rating in South Korea for excessive violence and sexually explicit content. The upcoming title has yet to be rated in places like North America, Europe and Australia though we can expect similar mature ratings from those countries as well.
As spotted by Reddit user Striking-Bison-8933, Stellar Blade recently received a mature 18+ rating from South Korea’s Game Rating and Administration Committee, stating that it contains excessive violence and some ‘sexually explicit content’ which may include nudity or sexual innuendos. Developer Shift Up previously stated that it wanted to make a mature game targeted at adults and it seems to have pulled that off.
In other news, Shift Up CEO Hyung-Tae Kim previously spoke about the distinct design of the lead female character, Eve. A lot of detail and attention went into the protagonist’s back since that’s what players will be looking at for most of their playtime. Some inspiration was lifted from PlatinumGames’ Nier: Automata in that regard, though it also extends to the combat and female-led action.
Stellar Blade is also set to be quite a lengthy game. Shift Up says that the main story will take players around 25 hours to beat, though if you’re a completionist, it will take you 30-50 hours to do everything that the game has to offer.
The official description for Stellar Blade reads:
“Save humanity from extinction in this electrifying story-driven action adventure. The future of humanity is balanced on the edge of a blade. Ravaged by strange, powerful creatures, Earth has been abandoned, and what is left of the decimated human race has fled to a Colony in outer space. After travelling from the Colony, Paratrooper Eve arrives on the desolate remains of our planet with a clear-cut mission: to save humankind by reclaiming Earth from the NA:tive – the malevolent force that has devastated it.”
Stellar Blade launches on 26 April 2024 exclusively for PS5. Make sure you check out the South African pre-order guide as well as the various editions that you can pre-purchase right now.
