Carrie, the classic Stephen King novel, is being adapted in an eight-episode TV series from Mike Flanagan, the creator and director of The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass. The show is being developed for Amazon Prime Video with reports stating that progress is moving quickly on the project as the crew is already trying to open a writer’s room. Unfortunately, the cast hasn’t been revealed yet.
According to Deadline, Mike Flanagan is handling yet another Stephen King adaptation after directing 2017’s Gerald’s Game and 2019’s Doctor Sleep. This time, Flanagan is working on an eight-episode TV series adaptation of Carrie, which was already adapted twice in movie format. The first was Brian De Palma’s 1976 movie while the second was a 2013 remake starring Chloe Grace Moretz and directed by Kimberly Peirce.
Deadline states that Flanagan and Trevor Macy will serve as executive producers on the show. Beyond that, details on the casting and how this adaptation plans to bring something unique to the table are being kept tightly under wraps for now.

The Stephen King novel expands upon certain characters and events that had to be ommitted or condensed for the movies, so a lengthy TV series adaptation could afford it more time to tell the story of the book more accurately. As many fans have already pointed out, this is also an opportunity to depict protagonist Carrie White more closely to her novel counterpart, including her plus-sized appearance which is one of the reasons the bullies in the school torment her.
Mike Flanagan hasn’t officially confirmed this news but Deadline is a reputable source of information about developing projects in Hollywood. It’s safe to say that we can expect a TV show adaptation of Carrie on Amazon Prime Video in the near future.
