Developer BlueTwelve Studio and publisher Annapurna Interactive’s cat adventure game Stray is now the highest user-rated game on Steam for 2022. The game is currently sitting with a user rating of 8.61 based on 42,665 votes (98% of which are positive). It has dethroned God of War on Steam’s charts, which scored a user rating of 8.56.
Stray released last week to mostly positive reviews from critics and fans. While it launched on PC via Steam, it also released alongside PS4 and PS5 console versions to generally positive reviews too. Steam’s charts now list it as the best user-rated game of the year so far, which is quite a triumphant feat for a smaller title than God of War.

Stray‘s official Steam description reads:
“Lost, alone and separated from family, a stray cat must untangle an ancient mystery to escape a long-forgotten city.
Stray is a third-person cat adventure game set amidst the detailed, neon-lit alleys of a decaying cybercity and the murky environments of its seedy underbelly. Roam surroundings high and low, defend against unforeseen threats and solve the mysteries of this unwelcoming place inhabited by curious droids and dangerous creatures.
See the world through the eyes of a cat and interact with the environment in playful ways. Be stealthy, nimble, silly, and sometimes as annoying as possible with the strange inhabitants of this mysterious world.”
Despite ranking really high for the year, Stray still has a long way to go if it wishes to top the platform’s all-time 250 chart. It currently sits at number 49 on that list, outdone by Portal 2 which is currently the highest user-rated Steam game of all time at an 8.83 average user score. Stray also managed to smash Annapurna Interactive’s record for concurrent Steam players, amassing around 62,000 players at launch.
Stray is now available for PS4, PS5 and PC via Steam.
