Street Fighter 6 Rated in Korea, Suggesting a Release Date Soon

Street Fighter 6, the upcoming fighter from Capcom, has been rated in South Korea suggesting that a release date might be coming soon. The anticipated game is currently expected to launch sometime in 2023, though no exact window or date was announced. Given the timing of this rating, it’s safe to assume that a release date might be announced at The Game Awards next month.

Street Fighter 6 has officially been rated in South Korea and issued a 15 certificate. Typically, games being rated are a good indication that a developer or publisher is ready to announce a release date. In this case, we can probably expect a release date announcement to happen at The Game Awards since that’s only a couple of weeks away and is the largest gaming event left of the year.

There’s little chance that Street Fighter 6 will release before 31 March 2023, though. Capcom stated in its recent financial results that it had one more game planned for the remainder of the fiscal year (ending 31 March next year), and that game is Resident Evil 4 which releases on 24 March 2023.

It’s possible that Street Fighter 6 might target a release date sometime in the summer (May – August). For the time being, it remains the only major fighting game expected to release next year. Bandai Namco stated that it plans to release Tekken 8 in 2023, though plans could change. It’s unknown if Mortal Kombat developer NetherRealm Studios will also release a new fighter in 2023, though all evidence seems to point to Mortal Kombat 12 happening – take that with a grain of salt for now.

In related news, fan-favourite character Ken is now a suspected terrorist in Street Fighter 6. Capcom also revealed that the game will feature a “button mashing” dynamic control scheme that will make it easier for those unfamiliar with Street Fighter to button-mash easier combos.

Street FIghter 6 launches in 2023 for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
