Street Fighter 6 Sells 1 Million Copies in One Week

Street Fighter 6 launched last week to universal praise from critics and fans, earning a massive 92/100 average rating on OpenCritic. The game is currently one of the highest-rated fighting games of the last ten years and it seems like that has translated to solid sales for Capcom as well. The company recently confirmed that Street Fighter 6 managed to sell over 1 million copies in just one week, bringing the overall franchise sales to 50 million copies worldwide.

Capcom released a press release yesterday confirming the exciting news, stating that Street Fighter 6 reached an impressive sales milestone of 1 million copies sold in a week. While this may seem small when compared to other heavy-hitting AAA releases on the market that sell much more in that same time period, a million copies sold for a fighting game in seven days is considered a pretty big success.

Capcom attributed Street Fighter 6‘s great sales to making the game accessible for newcomers while also catering to veterans – a balancing act that was pulled off pretty well, according to most reviews. “As a result of providing features for a diverse range of players, the title was met with broad acclaim, driving sales to 1 million units worldwide,” said Capcom.

Street Fighter 6 is the latest entry in the long-running fighting game franchise. After the disastrous launch of Street Fighter V which was criticised for its barebones modes and incomplete state, Capcom went back to the drawing board and crammed Street Fighter 6 with plenty of great content including a story mode, multiplayer, various new modes and much more. The game’s mechanics were also tweaked to allow newcomers to experience the fighter without complex controls. It evidently worked in the game’s favour.

Street Fighter 6 is currently available for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Make sure you read our full review here.
