With Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League just a few short weeks away from release, developer Rocksteady has been releasing bits of new information about the superhero game including what players can expect in the end game. New details now reveal that the game will have Diablo-style looting and gear system that encourages players to make various builds out of characters.
Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League game director Axel Rydby recently answered some fan questions about how builds and looting will work in the game. “We really want you to feel like you can make each character your own, and built it to suit your playstyle,” wrote Rydby in response. The director added that there will be “hundreds of possible combinations and permutations for builds” for the four characters: Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang and King Shark.

Each character will have a specific Talent Tree in addition to Afflictions applied by Poison Ivy, allowing them to all feel unique and play differently depending on the player’s preferences and playstyle. Gear also plays a large role in this as most have varying stats that, when synergised with other weapons and pieces, can create tons of build opportunities. It’s easy to see why so many fans are comparing it to Diablo, especially with the way all these systems work together to define a character’s build.
Furthermore, Suicide Squad will have six different weapon types with each character being proficient in three of them. Each member’s natural abilities (like Harley Quinn’s grappling hook, Captain Boomerang’s teleportation skills or King Shark’s high jumps) will stay the same but by combining all of these abilities, you can really flesh out a character’s gameplay capabilities and see what works and what doesn’t, depending on your playstyle.
To make the “grind” less intimidating, Rocksteady also confirmed that you’ll be able to earn gear for your friends when they are offline, which is honestly a nice touch. Players can also expect four major seasons of content post-launch, though Rocksteady insists that it isn’t a live service game despite having all the makings of one.
Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League launches on 2 February 2024 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
