Summer Game Fest Will Bring Back E3’s Extended Gameplay Demos

Summer Game Fest is set to take place on 9 June. With E3 being cancelled this year, the event is stepping up to fill that void with world premieres, new game reveals, gameplay dives and more. Event host Geoff Keighley seems ready to take up the challenge of filling that void as he recently promised that Summer Game Fest will bring back E3’s raw, extended gameplay demos.

In a recent Twitter Spaces Q&A (via The Loadout), Keighley firstly confirmed that this year’s Summer Game Fest will roughly be around the same length as last year’s show, which ran for an hour and 45 minutes. Even though the event is just a few days away, he also mentioned that the schedule isn’t 100% nailed down yet.

However, Keighley would later add that this year’s Summer Game Fest will bring back E3-styled extended gameplay sequences and demos, referring to the numerous games that got extensive gameplay deep dives at E3 before. A couple of games expected to be at the showcase will get five-minute-plus gameplay demos, according to the host. This is great news, but it leaves fans wondering exactly which games will get this special treatment.

Last year, Summer Game Fest ended on quite a bang when it unveiled a long-awaited new trailer for Elden Ring. Needless to say, Keighley is no stranger to securing unexpected and exciting game reveals, which will likely carry over to this year’s showcase as well.

Not-E3 season is getting busy, with PlayStation announcing a new State of Play event set to take place later this week. Additionally, the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase will also take place on 12 June. Summer Game Fest is crammed in the middle of these shows, but we can probably expect third-party publishers to deliver a good presentation.

Summer Game Fest takes place on 9 June 2022 at 11AM PST / 8PM SAST.
