Summer Game Fest 2024 Geoff Keighley June

Summer Game Fest Will Mainly Focus on Games Coming This Year

Summer Game Fest host Geoff Keighley has tempered expectations for the upcoming event set to take place this Friday. Dropping some new information online, Keighley revealed that this year’s show will mainly focus on games releasing this year. Additionally, he also mentioned that viewers shouldn’t expect updates on a handful of games including GTA 6, Kingdom Hearts 4, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and more.

Speaking on a recent Twitch Q&A stream, Geoff Keighley addressed questions regarding Summer Game Fest and what fans can expect at the show. One of the main things Keighley stressed was that this year’s event will largely focus on games releasing this year meaning there won’t be surprise announcements made for titles dropping in a few years time.

Over 55 partners, including PlayStation and Xbox, will be present at the event but may not have the most surprising reveals ready yet. Keighley told viewers that Summer Game Fest won’t be as big as previous years but you can still expect a decent number of exciting updates:

“One of the things you’ll see with the show this week is we really tried to programme some unexpected things, from smaller teams and independent studios, into the show as well, alongside some big blockbuster games and franchises that you will see in the show as well. I think it’s going to be, generally, a little bit quieter this summer in terms of crazy new announcements and shocking surprises and things like that.”

“There will definitely be new announcements, but the show is largely focused on, I think, existing games that have new updates for fans, just in terms of level setting,” Keighley added.

As for what you can expect, Keighley confirmed that we’ll get updates on Palworld, Monster Hunter Wilds and Metaphor: ReFantazio. However, there’s also a list of games that will not be present at the show including GTA 6, Kingdom Hearts 4, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Judas, Beyond Good and Evil 2, Hollow Knight: Silksong or The Wolf Among Us 2. He also said that there will be no new announcements for Five Nights at Freddy’s or Josef Fares taking the stage.

That’s a lot of expectation-tempering but hopefully it sets the tone for Summer Game Fest this year when it airs on 7 June at 2PM PT / 11PM CAT. Make sure you also check out the full schedule of gaming events taking place in June.
