Summer Game Fest Will Mostly Focus on Already Announced Games

Summer Game Fest is set to take place later this week and the hype train is steadily gaining momentum. However, host and creator Geoff Keighley says that the event will mostly focus on already announced games. We shouldn’t expect any “megaton shock” reveals, as he urges viewers to manage their expectations ahead of the live showcase.

Speaking on a recent Twitter Q&A, Keighley spoke in some detail about things we can expect to see at Summer Game Fest. This includes new gameplay for The Callisto Protocol, the first level playthrough of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, new Gotham Knights gameplay, an update on Fortnite presented by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and more.

Keighley said we can expect at least an hour and a half to two hours of content depending on the guest appearances, but most of that time will be dedicated to games that have already been announced:

“What I would say is that a lot of the games we’re going to show you are going to be [already] announced…  games are going to show new content to you, like some of the ones I’ve mentioned. We’ve got a couple of new game announcements in the show and hopefully some surprises if everything holds. But it definitely is a show that’s primarily focused on stuff that is announced.

So we’re doing some good stuff for you, but definitely manage your expectations in terms of the megaton shocks that you’re expecting. This is not The Game Awards. We’ve got lots of good stuff to show you but buyer beware of some of the crazy rumors I’m seeing out there in terms of things people expect to get announced.”

Keighley added that we’ll have to set our sights on other events like the upcoming Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase if we want more new game reveals, but the focus of Summer Game Fest will be to shed a light on games that we already know exist. There might be a few big announcements, but Keighley compared it to Elden Ring, which was unveiled in 2019 but reappeared at last year’s SGF to everyone’s surprise.

Summer Game Fest airs on 9 June 2022 at 8PM SAST.
