The Super Mario Bros. Movie is one of the most-anticipated films of the year. The film has received two trailers so far with the third “final” trailer set to launch next month. However, while some countries were excited to sit down and enjoy the film at the end of March, it seems that it has been delayed in certain regions.
When the film’s first trailer was released, Universal Pictures released dates for different countries and some were listed for 7 April while others, including South Africa, had the film’s release date for 22 March. This has since changed. Universal Pictures has adjusted all the release dates worldwide to coincide with the US launch on 7 April 2023.

This means some countries like Belgium, which were expected to get the film on 22 March, will now have to wait an extra two weeks to watch it. Most countries will premiere The Super Mario Bros. Movie on 7 April with some getting it on 5 and 6 April too. The changes can be seen below:
- Belgium – April 5 (previously March 22)
- France – April 5 (previously March 29)
- New Zealand – April 5 (previously March 30)
- Italy – April 6 (unchanged)
- Switzerland – April 6 (previously March 23)
- Austria – April 6 (previously March 24)
- Brazil – April 6 (previously March 30)
- United States – April 7 (unchanged)
- United Kingdom – April 7 (previously March 30)
- Sweden – April 7 (previously March 24)
- Japan – April 28 (previously March 27)
- Australia – April (previously March 30)
- Mexico – soon (previously March 24)
- Argentina – soon (previously April 6)
We don’t know why the film was delayed. However, Universal Pictures has likely staggered the release dates closer together to avoid spoilers and generate more hype around its launch if everyone is watching it at the same time. By the look of things, South Africans can watch Super Mario Bros. Movie on 7 April now.
Nintendo is expected to release the final trailer for the film on 9 March during a special Direct stream.
