Supermassive Trademarks New Game That Isn’t The Dark Pictures

Supermassive Games, the developers behind narrative-driven horror titles such as Until Dawn and The Dark Pictures Anthology, have filed a trademark for a new game called The Quarry. However, it’s seemingly unrelated to The Dark Pictures and is a new IP altogether.

Video Games Chronicle corroborated recent reports about a new Supermassive Games trademark,  meaning the studio isn’t just working on The Dark Pictures games only. The trademark is for a game called The Quarry, and according to VGC sources, it will be published by 2K with a release planned for late 2022.

No details were given about The Quarry outside of its trademark, but many fans suspect it will be another horror game. The studio exclusively specializes in the horror genre, specifically for narrative-driven experiences that use the choice/consequence system in creative ways.

The Quarry will mark Supermassive’s first new IP (apart from their ongoing Dark Pictures Anthology) since 2015’s Until Dawn.

Apart from The Quarry, Supermassive is also planning six more entries in their annual Dark Pictures Anthology series. Last year’s House of Ashes provided a teaser for 2022’s entry, The Devil In Me, which will likely release later this year.

Another recent trademark revealed five more Dark Pictures games in development at the studio, though no details were provided on any of them.

If VGC’s report about the publisher being 2K is to be believed, then The Quarry will likely be a multiplatform game like The Dark Pictures. Until Dawn was a PS4 exclusive, though new rumours indicate that a PS5 remake is also in development at Supermassive. Needless to say, they’ve been quite busy juggling multiple projects.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil In Me is set to release later this year for consoles and PC.
