Right now we are all waiting in anticipation for an official announcement regarding the Xbox Series X/S price hike globally. Last year, Microsoft confirmed that the company would increase the price of not only its games, which have already gone from $59 to $69, but also its Game Pass subscription and console hardware.
The company increased the price of the Xbox Series X/S in Japan last month which was also around a $50 hike. According to Microsoft, these recent price increases are done to maintain “consistency across regions”.
Sony was the first company to increase the price of its gaming console last year. The PS5 saw a substantial price hike on the hardware costing over R1200 for the Digital Edition in SA. While Microsoft promised no price increase on the Xbox hardware, in November, Phil Spencer said that 2023 will bring price changes to the lineup. He claimed that Microsoft kept the price where it was during the holiday season so gamers could enjoy the brand without paying more.
