Switch 2 Trailer Surpasses PS5 Popularity as Internet Trends Surge After Reveal

The Nintendo Switch 2 reveal was the highlight of the month, and it seems that, while the company’s stock dropped after the initial showcase, the internet has shown an increased surge of excitement. At the moment, the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal trailer has surpassed Sony’s PS5 reveal from back in 2020, and social media trends have shown the console to be more popular across trending hashtags than any previous reveal in the past.

The trailer is now sitting on 18 million views since its debut on Thursday last week. In less than 48 hours, the Switch 2 trailer was liked over 1 million times and amassed 4 million views. In comparison, the PS5 reveal hit 13.3 million views in the same time frame. The original Nintendo Switch reveal, on the other hand, reached 19.5 million views.

Granted, the PS5 trailer has been viewed 44 million times since its release almost five years ago, but the fact that the Switch 2 trailer is sitting on half those views a week later shows it will clearly pass Sony’s console.

Over on social media, Nintendo is seeing the same traction. On X, the Switch 2 reveal has surpassed 40 million views on the Nintendo of America account and 51 million views on the Japanese account. Google trends also show a 400% increase in Switch 2 pre-order, display size, trailer, and frame rate searches as fans scurry online for more information about the console’s specifications.

Nintendo didn’t show us much during the reveal. The trailer confirmed everything we have seen through leaks up to that point. The company is reportedly very, very upset about the leaks, which in a way, simmered down the excitement around the reveal.

Nintendo aims to sell 20 million Switch 2 consoles in the first year of launch. However, investors weren’t impressed by the way the company handled the reveal. After months of leaks, Nintendo’s one and only trailer left out software, hardware functionality, a release date, and pricing.

The company plans to showcase more of the Switch 2 on 2 April. In the meantime, various reports have come up regarding what games players can look forward to. Reports claim titles such as Diablo 4 and Starfield are being prepped for the console. In addition, Halo and other Microsoft games are being worked on.
