2K Games released two of the three planned Mafia games last week. The Mafia Trilogy includes 2 and 3 as a Definitive Edition with the original game’s remake launching in August 2020. However, things are not looking too good for the games as both of them are suffering from bugs and performance issues across Xbox and PS4.\nRead: Ghost of Tsushima Has a Dedicated “Flick Blood off Your Sword” Button\nAcross the internet, gamers have reported major performance issues across both Mafia 2 and 3 Definitive Edition. To start, the second game has some serious frame rate problems with constant jittering and freezing. In addition, the game is sometimes unplayable as you can’t drive your car properly without the game stuttering. Users are also reporting input lag while shooting and doing basic movements.\nTo make matters worse, the game is now 10 years old. Surely 2K Games could have put together a 1080p 30FPS game that runs smoothly?\n\nAs for Mafia 3 Definitive Edition, it is just as buggy as it was at launch. While 2K Games released an update to “fix” some issues, it seems they actually did more damage. Users are reporting a massive downgrade in visuals on the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro compared to before the patch. The game now runs at a reported 1080p which is lower than 1440p at launch. Textures don’t load, buildings are blocks until you get close to them and pop-in objects get in the way of playing.\nThe HDR implementation in Mafia 3 is also poor. The game is very dark and has this foggy filter on it when enabled. Users claim turning it off actually improves the game.\n\nHopefully, these issues are fixed soon. This does not bode well for the remake which is currently in development. Many are concerned that the game will also suffer from the same poor optimization. I am currently reviewing these definitive edition versions of the game and will share my thoughts soon.
