Take-Two is Confident GTA VI Won’t Suffer Another Delay, Says Delay Will Be “Worth it”

Take-Two is confident that GTA VI is now on track to launch in May next year. The parent company of Rockstar Games says the recent announcement of the game’s new 2026 release date is a worthy investment, as the experience will be unlike anything players have ever had in a video game.

According to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, GTA 6 started development back in 2020 after Rockstar Games slowed down content for Red Dead Redemption 2. He claims the delay will be worth the extra time players will have to wait in order to get their hands on GTA VI.

He followed up by saying there won’t be any further delays on the project, and the team is confident that GTA VI will launch in May 2026 without any more obstacles.

“Rockstar expects to release Grand Theft Auto VI on May 26, 2026, which is in our Fiscal Year 2027.  I believe affording Rockstar additional time for such a groundbreaking project is a worthy investment. The ambition and complexity of Grand Theft Auto VI is greater than any previous Rockstar title, and the team is poised to release another astonishing entertainment experience that will exceed players’ expectations.”

While Rockstar never shared any prior release date for GTA VI, the game was reportedly set to launch sometime in 2025. Take-Two didn’t confirm that the game was delayed but kind of made it clear the studio needed more time when the official release date was announced.

GTA VI is now expected to launch on 26 May 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The recent second trailer debuted loads of new screenshots and showcased the world players will explore. It also came with the official story information on the two main characters. They have clearly been inspired by Bonnie and Clyde.
