Some users were even told to uninstall both games for the time being while the issue was sorted and Valve came investigated the situation.

It was a delicate situation as players had no idea what was going on or the steps they had to take in order to protect themselves and their hardware from hackers who may have found ways to take advantage of the game files through the source code.

It took a few hours, however, Valve responded to the situation saying that the CS: GO and Team Fortress 2 code leak does not pose as a threat to players on current builds of the game.

“We have reviewed the leaked code and believe it to be a reposting of a limited CS:GO engine code depot released to partners in late 2017, and originally leaked in 2018. From this review, we have not found any reason for players to be alarmed or avoid the current builds (as always, playing on the official servers is recommended for greatest security). We will continue to investigate the situation and will update news outlets and players if we find anything to prove otherwise. In the meantime, if anyone has more information about the leak, the Valve security page

Valve asks that anyone who may have information surrounding the Team Fortress 2, and CS GO leak report it to the official security page. Luckily, the situation seems to be under control for now but let’s hope this does not happen again.
