A closed beta for Tekken 8, the anticipated upcoming fighting game from Bandai Namco, is reportedly getting a closed beta sometime soon. The publisher has been trickling out new character reveals and trailers over the last few months, though no release date is in sight yet. It seems like players might be able to give game a try soon if a recent SteamDB listing is anything to go by.
An image of Tekken 8 with the caption ‘CNT’ recently appeared on SteamDB, which stands for Closed Network Test – or in other words, a closed beta. This comes in light of the Tekken 8 Alpha build which has been doing the rounds at various tournaments and events for professional players, content creators and media to try out. It’s speculated that the previously leaked character select screen was part of the Alpha build of the game.

While Bandai Namco hasn’t said anything yet about a potential closed beta test for Tekken 8, SteamDB listings have never been wrong and it’s likely that a beta will be coming for the fighting game sooner rather than later. Despite PlayStation having the marketing rights to Tekken 8, the game failed to appear at the recent PlayStation Showcase. This only leaves Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest open as a possible candidate for when this closed beta announcement might happen.
It’s unclear when Bandai Namco plans to launch Tekken 8, though the company did give fans a bit of hope by stating that it will be out before April 2024. With 2023 already containing two heavy-hitting fighting game releases in Capcom’s Street Fighter 6 and NetherRealm Studios’ Mortal Kombat 1, it’s possible that the studio could push the game’s release to early next year to avoid clashes.
Tekken 8 is currently in development for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
