Tekken 8 The Game Awards 2022 Bandai Namco

Tekken 8 Confirmed for The Game Awards 2022

Tekken 8, the upcoming highly anticipated fighter from Bandai Namco, has been confirmed to appear at The Game Awards 2022. A Tekken 8 package has seemingly gone out to select individuals stating that fans can tune into the awards show on 8 December for another look at the fighting game.

Tekken 8 was first announced earlier this year at a PlayStation State of Play event. Bandai Namco confirmed that it would be built entirely in Unreal Engine 5 and would only be available on current-gen consoles as well as PC, meaning it won’t be released on PS4 and Xbox One.

The reveal trailer for Tekken 8 showed father and son Kazuya Mishima and Jin Kazama trading blows as a storm rages around them. Jin gets the upper hand by utilising his Devil Gene. It presented a mix of cinematic transitions and gameplay, showing off some truly impressive visuals and a massive leap from Tekken 7. So far, the only confirmed characters seem to be Kazuya and Jin, though this new showcase at The Game Awards might offer a glimpse at more of the roster.

Fans speculate that since we’re seeing a lot more of Tekken 8 now, it might be targeting a 2023 release date. Bandai Namco already announced its plans to release the fighter sometime next year, though didn’t provide an exact date yet.

In addition to Tekken 8, it’s likely that we’ll see a few more anticipated fighting games at The Game Awards. Capcom’s marketing for Street Fighter 6 is in full swing so it’s possible that the company will announce a 2023 release date too. Additionally, NetherRealm Studios is heavily rumoured to appear at The Game Awards too, with many believing that the developer might reveal the next Mortal Kombat.

Tekken 8 is expected to release in 2023 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Tune into The Game Awards on 8 December at 7PM CAT to find out what’s in store.
