Bandai Namco released a massive 36-minute breakdown of Tekken 8 over the weekend, confirming the return of fan-favourite character Nina Williams as well as a closed alpha test set to take place next month. Some details were also discussed about the gameplay and what players can expect in the next exciting entry for the long-running fighting game series.
The lengthy gameplay breakdown for Tekken 8 went into some detail about the game’s rage system, heat system and recovery gauge. Apart from having updated visuals built in Unreal Engine 5, the game will also feature a blend of familiar combo-based mechanics and new systems to mix things up. Nina Williams, a mainstay character in the Tekken series since 1994, was officially unveiled too as part of the launch roster. The gameplay showed some of her familiar and new combos as well.

The closed alpha test for Tekken 8 will take place across multiple locations globally. However, this will be an in-person event. Bandai Namco stated that it will use these tests as an opportunity to get some feedback about its new battle systems. The first closed alpha will be held at Evo Japan next month. If you’d like to participate, you’ll need to apply via a special website which will only go live towards the end of February.
Bandai Namco stopped short of mentioning any concrete release date for Tekken 8 but the company previously stated that it was aiming for a 2023 release. This may be pushed to next year, though the second half of 2023 is much less cluttered in terms of major releases so Tekken 8 could easily slot in.
Other confirmed characters for Tekken 8 so far include Jin Kazama, Kazuya Mishima, Jack, Marshall Law, Paul Phoenix, Lars Alexandersson, King and Jun Kazama. More of the roster will be unveiled in the coming months.
Tekken 8 is currently in development for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Check out the new gameplay below.
