Tekken 8 producer Katsuhiro Harada has urged players to stop glitching costumes to appear oversized while playing online matches on PC. Tekken 8 PC players recently began noticing a trend where online competitors were taking cosmetic items, such as hats or boxes, and increasing the sizes of them to gigantic proportions, resulting in almost the entire half of the screen blocking out their characters.
As you can imagine, it’s pretty difficult to fight another player without seeing their character as it’s virtually impossible to counter or read their next move. As for how this is achieved, some PC players have been modifying the game’s files to significantly increase the sizes of cosmetic items on clothing in order to give them an advantage in battles. It’s hilarious at first glance until you realise that this is being used against other players online who just want a fair fight.
Katsuhiro Harada responded to a player who posted a clip of this bizarre “mod” in action, saying that it’s considered cheating and all players attempting to use this method will be banned. The clip Harada replies to shows one player who drastically increased the size of a hat to cover their entire body:
We will ban them after preserving evidence of Chater’s replay data.
When you use the hashtag #T8_report, please include the player’s name and region information so that we can ban them smoothly. https://t.co/EPeN7pQ3uT— Katsuhiro Harada (@Harada_TEKKEN) March 13, 2024
Bandai Namco has been cracking down on cheaters in Tekken 8 who have taken to breaking or modding the game in order to gain unfair advantages. When the game launched, the community banded against “pluggers” – those who, when fighting online, quit out of the battle before the winner can complete the match. This results in the winner not gaining any experience points from the fight and the plugger avoiding putting a loss on their record. Since then, several players guilty of plugging have been banned.
Tekken 8 is available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Make sure you also check out our rankings of the Tekken games from worst to best.
