Bandai Namco revealed the release date for Tekken 8 during last night’s Gamescom Opening Night Live event along with newly announced characters like Yoshimitsu, Dragunov, Kuma and more officially joining the roster. Additionally, a new game mode called Arcade Quest was also introduced that will allow players to create a custom avatar and compete in virtual tournaments.
The new trailer for Tekken 8 puts a bit of emphasis on the story but we also got a first look at some of the new fighters joining the game such as everyone’s favourite cyber-samurai Yoshimitsu as well as Shaheen, Kuma, Dragunov, Leo and Steve. Bandai Namco stated in the trailer that the game will feature “32 unique fighters” along with the dozens already revealed. Tekken 8 now has an official release date of 26 January 2024.

Devil Jin will also be making a return in Tekken 8 though it’s unclear if he’ll receive his own character slot or simply merge with Jin (as the reveal trailer might’ve suggested).
Unfortunately, Yoshimitsu, Shaheen and Steve were already leaked a few weeks ago thanks to dataminers who dug into the closed network test and discovered the unannounced fighters, so it didn’t come as a big surprise seeing their return in the trailer. Thankfully the other character reveals weren’t spoiled so if you’re a Kuma or Dragunov fan, this is great news.
The new game mode called Arcade Quest Mode is similar to Street Fighter 6‘s Battle Hub, allowing players to create an avatar (albeit a much more animated one here) and compete in virtual tournaments as they explore playgrounds that emulate real-life events and gatherings. It should be a nice little addition to the various modes Tekken 8 will have on offer, including a more comprehensive story mode that continues the Mishima storyline.
Tekken 8 releases on 26 January 2024 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Check out the latest trailer below:
