Tekken 8 Tekken 7 PS5 Xbox Series X/S Upgrades

Tekken 8 Seemingly Teased by Bandai Namco

Bandai Namco has seemingly teased Tekken 8 at the recent Evolution Championship Series or Evo 2022. During the trailer announcing free PS5 and Xbox Series X/S upgrades for Tekken 7, the Japanese publisher dropped a very brief teaser of Kazuya Mishima with the caption “Get Ready.”

Evo 2022 featured a variety of fighting games as part of its cycle of tournaments, ranging from Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate and Dragon Ball FighterZ to Guilty Gear Strive. However, Tekken 7 has been one of the main attractions of the championships since its launch in 2017. This year was special, however, as the Tekken 7 tournament wrapped up with a teaser revealing the next Tekken game.

The actual teaser for the next Tekken game is short and reveals little other than Kazuya smirking at the camera. The caption “Get Ready” is a good indication that we’re looking at the next mainline Tekken entry, Tekken 8. The announcement was accompanied by a surprise appearance by Tekken director Katsuhiro Harada who briefly appeared on stage and jumped up and down in excitement with the Evo hosts.

Tekken 7 first released in arcades in 2015 before making its way to consoles and PC in 2017. The game has seen regular updates since then, adding new features, modes and fighters – some as crossover collaborations from other franchises including Fatal Fury, Final Fantasy and The Walking Dead.

It’s been seven years since the last mainline entry in the series so Tekken 8 is long overdue. Bandai Namco didn’t offer any more information outside of the teaser so the expectation is that we’ll see an official, bigger reveal sometime this year – possibly during PlayStation’s next big event or at The Game Awards in December.

In the meantime, fans can look forward to Tekken 7 receiving free PS5 and Xbox Series X/S upgrades if you already own the game on PS4 and Xbox One. The free update will arrive on 17 August 2022.
