After recent rumours surfaced that The Wolf Among Us developer Telltale Games had been hit with layoffs, the studio has now come out to confirm the reports. The layoffs were a result of “market conditions”, though no elaboration was given. Despite letting go of several employees, the company says that all projects are still in production which could include upcoming titles like The Wolf Among Us 2 and potentially some unannounced games.
Speaking in a recent statement, Telltale Games confirmed that it had to terminate a number of employees from the company, prompted by current market conditions. Telltale recently released The Expanse: A Telltale Series and has plans to launch The Wolf Among Us 2 at an unspecified date in 2024 after it was delayed out of its original 2023 release window.

The statement from Teltale Games regarding the layoffs reads:
“Due to current market conditions, we regrettably had to let some of our Telltale team go recently. We did not take this action lightly, and our commitment to storytelling and finding new ways to do so remains the same. We are grateful to everyone for their dedication along this journey, and we are working to support everyone impacted. All projects currently in development are still in production, and we have no further updates at this time.”
Sudden layoffs continue to emerge in the gaming industry. This year alone, Microsoft cut around 10,000 jobs which impacted game studios like Xbox, Bethesda and 343 Industries. Other studios impacted by layoffs in 2023 include The Callisto Protocol developer Striking Distance Studios, The Last of Us developer Naughty Dog, Pokemon GO studio Niantic, The Order: 1886 developer Ready at Dawn, Valorant developer Riot Games, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf and Mass Effect studio BioWare, Worms publisher Team17, and Fortnite company Epic Games.
