Terminally ill Gamer Will Get to Play Borderlands 3 Early

Borderlands 3 is one of our most-anticipated games of the year and it releases on 13 September for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. From what we’ve seen so far, Gearbox Software will deliver one amazing looter-shooter and we just have to sit here and wait patiently for the game to release. However, some gamers out there do not have that luxury. Enter Trevor Eastman, who will get to play Borderlands 3 early due to him being terminally ill.

Trevor has stage 4 esophageal (liver and stomach cancer) and he does not know exactly how long he has left to live. That’s why it looks like Gearbox will bring him an early copy of Borderlands 3 in June to play. Sure, there is some negativity surrounding Gearbox right now with the Epic Games Store exclusivity as well as microtransactions debacle, but this is such a great thing to do for a dying fan.

Trevor created a post on Reddit and some users even thought he was making it up, so he shared proof here and here. Trevor’s first post explains that:

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”#33fff9″ class=”” size=”25″]Hi everyone. I don’t even know if this is a possibility…if anyone can make this happen for me…but my name is Trevor Eastman and I’m 26 years old. Last June I was diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal, stomach and liver cancer. I was given a year to live…I’ve been a huge fan of Borderlands for a long time now…and I don’t know if I’ll live to see Borderlands 3. If there’s any possible way that someone could find a way for me to be able to play it early…I would be forever grateful. I tried to see if I could see Avengers: Endgame early because I’m not sure how long I really have…but i wasn’t so lucky. If anybody could help me that would mean the world to me. Thank you for listening.[/perfectpullquote]

This was one month ago and now, it seems like Gearbox took notice of Trevor and will be sending someone to likely bring this fan an early copy of the game, or at least give him several hours to play Borderlands 3. Trevor posted an update on the situation, explaining that:

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”#ff33da” class=”” size=”25″]Hey everyone, I just wanted to give you all that were kind enough to upvote and tweet about my situation an update. One of the people from 2k has been talking to me(not sure if I’m allowed to say who so I won’t mention a name) and he’s making it happen. They’re flying somebody out at the beginning of June most likely to give me a copy of the game. I just wanted to thank you all so much for helping make this dream come true. It means the world to me that you all cared enough to do that for me.[/perfectpullquote]

It is simply fantastic to hear that this terminally ill fan will get to play Borderlands 3 early. It is a great move by Gearbox and even though some will probably claim that they are doing it for the PR, it doesn’t really matter, as it will bring joy to a dying gamer and that is all that should really matter.
