Back when I was growing up, army men toys were everything. Those simply green little men that you would buy in bulk along with their trenches, tanks and planes and venture off into the garden to build the ultimate World War II reenactment. It was all about your imagination and the explosions were as big and real as you saw them on TV. Moose Toys has the answer to the army men toys of 2019 and they come in the form of the Fortnite Batte Royale Toy Collection.
Prima Toys, SA’s biggest toy distributor yesterday revealed that they would be handling the new range of Fortnite toys in SA and I got some hands-on time with them. The range dubbed “Fortnite: Battle Royale Collection” comes in various types of toys and as you collect them all you will be able to build your own battle royale-style playground.
The Battle Royale Collection is firstly a range of 5cm collectable figurines. These small character replicas have moving arms and include stands for them to be supported on. Each figurine comes with a stand and two swappable accessories in the form of weapons and backpacks. These items can then be swapped around to other characters you purchase too.
Right now, there are 100 different 5cm toys to collect including popular Fortnite characters such as Skull Trooper, Drift, Bomber and more. There is also a limited edition Diecast version of them somewhere in SA and it is one of 1000 available worldwide.
But Fortnite would be nothing without its battle royale “build mode” and there is a new collection of toys available in boxed bundles that include replica walls made of wood, metal and brick. These building parts can be placed together so you can build and create your very own fort like you would in the game. The creations are only limited to your imagination and the more you collect these and splurge on the bundles, the bigger your battle royale collection will grow. When I say “you” I totally mean your child, niece or nephew that is obsessed with the game.
Prima Toys will also be bringing into SA a range of 12cm figurines that compliment the building feature quite well. These larger toys can be moved into any position and highly customized thanks to the massive collection of weapons that you can collect. They will add even more creativity to the battle royale experience for your youngster. The will release in individual packs or in packs of four characters including walls and extra weapons.
Prima even revealed a replica llama “loot box” styled package which you can purchase and inside you will get random items in the 12cm set including walls too. Those looking to take the battle royale experience to the next level can also look out for the Battle Bus set that includes the iconic floating bus from the game and a load of items which can be incorporated into your toy set. Lastly, there’s also a pack strictly built with walls and scaffoldings included so you can just build your ultimate fort.
Prima Toys announced that the 5cm figurines will retail in SA for R129,99 for a single pack, R249,99 for the 2 pack and R399,99 for the 4 pack. They have yet to announce the price point for the 12cm packs and the Battle Bus but if I am guessing, you could most likely expect the single packs to set you back between R179 and R229.
The 5cm range is now available in all major toy retailers in SA including Hamleys, Pick n’ Pay, GAME, CNA and more. Let us know what you think of these new toys in the comments below.
