The Batman 2 (or as it’s officially known, The Batman Part II) will begin shooting next year ahead of its release in October 2026. The first movie released in 2022 and starred Robert Pattinson as the caped crusader, Paul Dano as The Riddler and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon. Warner Bros. Discovery is also apparently discussing the possibility of The Penguin season 2.
Director Matt Reeves and actress Zoe Kravitz, who played Catwoman in The Batman, recently spoke to Variety and offered a tease of what’s to come. “We’re finishing the script. We’re going to be shooting next year,” said Reeves when pressed about the progress of The Batman 2. That’s all the information that Reeves was able to give right now as the sequel is still in the pre-production stages. Kravitz is expected to return along with Pattinson as Batman.
Elsewhere in the interview, Reeves also revealed that discussions were happening with Warner Bros. Discovery about a potential season 2 for The Penguin, this year’s hit HBO series. “We’re talking to [showrunner] Laurnce [LeFranc] about doing another season,” said Reeves. “That was a special experience. I just feel really fortunate. These characters don’t belong to me; they belong to the world. It comes down to whether you can approach them in a way that expresses something personal.”
The Batman 2 was originally expected to release in October 2025 but Warner Bros. pushed it back to October 2026. We don’t know much about the story or even potential villains that will be featured in The Batman‘s sequel. If you’re keen to see which villains we’d personally like to see in the follow-up, read more about it here. It seems either Mr. Freeze or the Court of Owls are the popular choices that fans would like too.
The Penguin is now available to stream on Showmax as well as HBO Max.
