Last week, rumours surfaced about a potential video game set in The Batman universe of movies from director Matt Reeves. Puck reported this much, though had little information to provide on the development team or details on the game. Now, co-head of DC Studios, James Gunn, has debunked the rumours, claiming that no such project is in the works.
James Gunn gave a brief update on Threads addressing the rumours about a potential video game set in The Batman movie saga by Matt Reeves. “Sadly there is no truth to this whatsoever,” said Gunn on his account. Gunn, being in a position at DC Studios where he would sign off on such projects, is a very credible source to trust on this matter. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like those rumours had any weight to them and it was already a bit odd that no details were provided in the initial report.
On the bright side (depending on who you ask), Warner Bros. Discovery and DC do have a new Batman game in the works titled Batman: Arkham Shadow, though it will be a Meta Quest 3 VR exclusive game. It’s set within the universe of Rocksteady’s Arkham games and Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League. From the perspective of Batman, players will get to utilise all of the caped crusader’s gadgets, stealthily take down enemies and become the Batman.
The Batman is moving ahead with a sequel called The Batman Part II, scheduled to arrive in October 2025. The sequel will see the return of Robert Pattinson as the dark knight alongside Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon. Details on the plot are being kept tightly under wraps for now including who the villain(s) of the movie will be. Fans speculate that the sequel could introduce a villain rarely explored in Batman’s rogues gallery such as the Ventriloquist, Killer Croc or the Court of Owls.
