DC FanDome dropped several new trailers over the weekend, from Gotham Knights‘ creepy Court of Owls trailer to a new look at Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League. However, the event capped off with a new trailer for Matt Reeves’ 2022 film The Batman, and it teases an epic showdown with its main antagonist, The Riddler.
The newest trailer for the upcoming film The Batman expands upon the teaser that debuted last year, offering us a closer look at the film’s central villains and Robert Pattinson’s turn as the new dark knight. The trailer begins with the GCPD arresting Paul Dano’s Edward Nashton aka The Riddler, leaving an ominous coffee cup with his signature question mark on it. We get more scenes of Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and an unrecognizable Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot aka The Penguin. Despite The Riddler being the central villain, his presence is mostly kept hidden throughout the trailer, which is a very wise move.

The Batman is yet another DC reboot of the iconic caped crusader, this time being portrayed by Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman. The film’s plot will follow Batman in his second year on the job when tensions are still high between him and the Gotham City Police Department. Of course, The Riddler emerges on the scene and pushes Batman to his breaking point, capable of psychologically manipulating Batman while maintaining his many schemes and plans. It looks like Catwoman will also play a role in the forthcoming events, though her and Penguin’s roles won’t be as massive as Pattinson and Paul Dano, who plays The Riddler.
The Batman will release exclusively in cinemas on 4 March 2022. It will be the first standalone Batman movie since The Dark Knight Rises in 2012, preceding Ben Affleck’s version of the character in Zack Snyder’s defunct DCEU.
