Skyrim PS5 Mods Overhaul PlayStation Bethesda

The Best Skyrim Mods on PS5 to Overhaul The Game in 2025

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is well over a decade now and there’s been enough time for modders to not only improve upon Bethesda’s landmark RPG but also introduce new features to the game that weren’t originally there. While mod support is unfortunately a bit limited on PS5 compared to PC or Xbox, there are still a number of ways to completely overhaul the experience, from better visuals to performance boosts and even redesigned cities, here’s a list of Skyrim mods that will make you want to jump right back in.

Before we begin, these mods were compiled based on the Anniversary Edition of the game, though there shouldn’t be a problem to install them on the Special Edition too. If this is your first time modding Skyrim, make sure you read up on how to properly structure your load order right here as that determines how optimised your mods will be, avoiding crashes or conflicts as much as possible. Mods on PS5 can be found under the “Creations” section of the menu.

Sovngarde – A Nordic Font by Koveich: Starting simple, Sovngarde changes the font of the game to better reflect its nordic themes. It’s a much more immersive and cleaner look than the vanilla font.

FOV Changer (And More) by Cyan49: Another simple mod that lets you change the FOV of the game on PlayStation along with a bunch of other great tweaks to improve your game’s performance. Since Bethesda bricked most FOV mods since the Anniversary update, this is the only functional FOV mod so far.

Lore-Based Distinct Races (Height and Buffs) by NeatMachine: There are a few mods that adjust the heights of races in Skyrim but this one is arguably the best. It not only resizes races to be more lore-accurate but also gives them slight stat tweaks and buffs to differentiate them further than the vanilla game.

JK’s Skyrim (All-in-One) by JKRojmal: A complete overhaul of most of Skyrim‘s major towns, cities and villages (minus Dawnstar). This mod adds more detail and clutter to locations and in some cases, greatly expands them to be far more appealing and lore-accurate than the vanilla game. Keep in mind, this mod requires the Fishing Creation Club content for compatibility so make sure you install it first.

Bridges of Skyrim by Micahghost: A classic mod that redesigns all of the major bridges in Skyrim to give it an authentic look and feel. Each bridge also matches the lore and design of the regions, so they complement JK’s Skyrim rather well.

Dark’s Orc Strongholds by DarkMaster06 and Pymous: An overhaul of all four Orc strongholds located throughout Skyrim. The mod adds more buildings, details, items and even NPCs. If you’re playing as an Orc, this is a must.

Populated Skyrim Civil War by Sands of Time Tea: Another classic mod that makes Skyrim truly feel like its in the midst of a heated civil war (compared to the vanilla game which felt like skirmishes among small groups). The mod adds large-scale battles between Imperials and Stormcloaks at the border – more than 200 soldiers in all-out conflicts. Patrols are more intense in major cities and there’s a higher chance of stumbling into small battles while out exploring.

13s Agalma Infinium by Various Modders: A massive collaborative texture overhaul for Skyrim and easily the best texture mod on PS5, Agalma Infinium completely revitalises the graphics with its sharper, detailed textures for almost every surface in the game without tanking performance. Out of all the mods on this list, this might be the most essential one.

Azerite! AAL (Atmosphere, Acoustics, Lumen) by BeVeryOfA: Complementing Agalma Infinium is one of the best weather, lighting and sound all-in-one overhaul mods. Azerite! AAL does more than just change Skyrim’s atmosphere/lighting to reflect a more fantasy-focused look, it also tweaks the game’s sounds to make your game incredibly immersive. Another highly essential mod for this list, though you’re welcome to install any of your favourite weather mods too.

NordWarUA Vanilla Armor Replacer by NordWarUA: An armour replace mod that swaps out most of Skyrim‘s vanilla armour sets for medieval fantasy sets that look phenomenal, complete with sharper textures and designs without breaking lore. It doesn’t change every set but it covers a pretty large variety nonetheless.

Sons of Skyrim by NordWarUA: Complementing the Vanilla Armor Replace is Sons of Skyrim, which replaces even more armour sets in the game while retaining NordWarUA’s medieval fantasy look. This one specifically covers all the guard armours as well as the Stormcloaks sets.

Dynamic Impact Slash Effects X by ap05 and novon1: A simple mod that adds impact slash effects to the third-person gameplay. It’s very stylish and adds a lot more weight to combat.

Skoglendi – A Grass Mod by JPSteel2: One of the most underrated grass mods you can currently get on consoles, Skoglendi adds flowing, dense, realistic grass to most of Skyrim and it looks spectacular. It’s advised not to use this mod with any other grass or foliage mods since it could cause serious framerate issues.

Vanaheimr Ice / Marsh by Cl3mus: A double texture mod that retextures most of the ice and marshes in the game to give them a more photorealistic aesthetic. It’s quite performance-friendly too. Just make sure you load this AFTER Agalma Infinium.

Arctic – Frost Effects Redux / Inferno – Fire Effects Redux by iRetrospect: Another double mod that’s more than just a retexture of all the fire and ice effects in the game, it also enhances the visuals of magic and spells for that extra oomph.

TNT – True Nordic Trolls Revamped by SomethingWhatever: A creature mod that overhauls all the trolls in the game. It not only makes them intimidatingly larger but also changes their entire design to make them more accurate to Scandinavian fairytales. It’s easily one of the best creature mods in Skyrim.

Majestic Dragons – Glorious by Lucaoys: Ever feel like Skyrim‘s dragons are just a bit too small and not at all imposing? Majestic Dragons – Glorious tweaks the flying creatures to be greater in size and have a larger wingspan. Another must-have mod if you want the game’s dragons to actually look like threatening dragons.

Ordinator – Perks of Skyrim by EnaiSiaion: Finally we get to the section of mods that make Skyrim a true role-playing experience. First on the list is Ordinator, an overhaul of all the perks in the game to greatly expand them while adding new abilities, buffs and much more. It’s a massive, game-changing mod that should be priority number one on your journey to overhaul Skyrim.

Apocalypse – Magic of Skyrim by EnaiSiaion: Another mod from the same author as Ordinator, Apocalypse mainly focuses on expanding the magic in Skyrim by adding a metric ton of new spells to all arcane classes. If you’re playing a mage, you absolutely need this mod. Keep in mind, Ordinator and Apocalypse requires a patch (right here) to work together.

Immersive Movement by zanadaniel: A redesign of all player, NPC and creature movements in the game that leans heavily into realism. It adds more weight to your actions and tweaks combat for a completely immersive experience.

Fast Alternate Start by bellasarius: Last but certainly not least is Fast Alternate Start which greatly increases your role-playing potential. This mod skips over the overly long cart ride to Helgen and drops you almost anywhere on the map, complete with a variety of backstories and starting points. Now you can actually roleplay as your ideal character in Skyrim without being nudged into becoming a prophetic hero.

Marry Almost Anyone by LGBSHI: Okay, we lied. This is the last mod. This just lets you marry any NPC in the game, not just Bethesda’s predefined waifus and husbandos. Go wild, casanova.
