The BlackBerry Movie Trailer Teases The Rise and Fall of The Keyboard Phone

We all remember the BlackBerry phone to some degree. Everyone had one back in the day but the company is nowhere to be seen now. Want to know what happened? Spoiler alert – BlackBerry died at the hands of the smartphone but the journey it went on is still a wonderful tale. The upcoming BlackBerry movie aims to tell this story with a bit of comedy and what looks like catastrophe.

BlackBerry stars Jay Baruchel (How to Train Your Dragon), Glenn Howerton (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and is being directed by Matt Johnson. The movie tells the story of how the popular keyboard phone went from a garage project to becoming the must-have device for everyone to slowly dying thanks to the launch of the smartphone.

The trailer gives us a good look at the film’s story and there’s even one particular moment where Steve Jobs announces the iPhone only to cause complete havoc in the office at BlackBerry. The trailer definitely sets up the rise and fall of BlackBerry and anyone interested in the backstory of the company might enjoy the film. Of course, the film is far from a serious documentary but the comedic approach might make it more accessible to viewers.

Opening in theaters May 12th (local launch tbc), The true story of the meteoric rise & catastrophic demise of the world’s first smartphone, BLACKBERRY is a whirlwind ride through a ruthlessly competitive Silicon Valley at breakneck speeds.
