The Dark Pictures Anthology Directive 8020 Supermassive Games

The Dark Pictures Anthology: Directive 8020 Announced

Supermassive Games is currently developing a new entry in The Dark Pictures Anthology. Season 1 will wrap up with this year’s The Devil in Me, but thanks to some early leaks, a trailer has already appeared for the next game, Directive 8020, which will mark the beginning of Season 2.

The trailer, which is a lot lighter on details than previous teasers for new Dark Pictures games, shows what appears to be a space station in the future. Something has clearly happened that drove humanity off Earth and it sounds like they’re looking for a new home. Given that this is a horror franchise, we can probably anticipate something terrible to happen on the space station.

We already knew about Directive 8020 thanks to Supermassive Games filing a trademark earlier this year that explicitly named five upcoming games in the Dark Pictures series. The others include unannounced titles such as The Craven Man, O Death, Intercession and Winterfold.

As mentioned before, the teaser trailer for Directive 8020 is awfully light on details, including actors. These end-credits teasers usually give us an indication of which actors will be appearing in the new games, but this time, it seems like Supermassive Games is holding that information back, possibly as a surprise. Well-known actors such as Shawn Ashmore, Ashley Tisdale, Will Poulter and Jessie Buckley have all appeared in the series so far, including Pip Torrens as The Curator who is the only recurring character.

Being set in space, Directive 8020 is a refreshing direction for the series, which has mostly grounded its events on Earth and in locations like a haunted ship, a ghostly town and underground labyrinths in the desert. It will be interesting to see what nightmares are awaiting us next year.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me is now available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
