Dune 2 Popcorn Bucket

The Dune 2 Popcorn Bucket is Giving The Internet Mixed Signals

Dune: Part Two is set to arrive in cinemas worldwide next month and ahead of its release, Warner Bros. is ramping up the marketing in interesting ways. This now includes an exclusive Dune 2 popcorn bucket that’s sending mixed signals to the internet because, well, look at it.

The image was first posted by YouTuber Cris Parker who showed off the new Dune 2 themed popcorn bucket, featuring the movie’s iconic sandworm design with its mouth as the top of the bucket. The design is pretty cool at first glance but once you dig into the comments section, you’ll realise exactly why this maybe wasn’t such a great marketing stunt.

Parker believed that was some sort of 3D-printed joke at first but upon further digging, he discovered that it was a real promotional item. The image was later shared by popular Twitter/X accounts such as Culture Crave and DiscussingFilm, with golden comments like “that’s not just a popcorn bucket…” and “everything reminds me of her.”

Other comments include, “I’ll take, uhh, five Dune 2 souvenir popcorn buckets please. No, I won’t be seeing the movie” and “they sure do know their audience.”

It’s hard to say if this was meant to be part of the official marketing or as someone pointed out, a prototype bucket design that went out as a test at a smaller cinema chain. Either way, people are eating it up. The design, I mean. Not the pop- nevermind.

Dune: Part Two will star Timothee Chalamet, Florence Pugh, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Dave Batista, Christopher Walken and a massive cast of actors. It was originally scheduled to release in 2023 but Warner Bros. delayed the movie to this year after the Hollywood strikes put a hold on productions last year. You can watch it in cinemas on 15 March 2024.
