The Duskbloods, the upcoming PvPvE multiplayer dark fantasy game from Elden Ring developer From Software, has confirmed that it won’t have character creation, though you can still customise the “over a dozen” characters that will be available in the game when it launches next year.
Over the weekend, From Software unveiled a few more details about The Duskbloods, confirming that players won’t be able to tap into character creation in order to create their ideal protagonist. Instead, players can choose from over a dozen preset characters in the game and customise various aspects of their appearances, though game director Hidetaka Miyazaki didn’t go into too much detail about what customisation options will be available.
The game’s characters are called Bloodsworn heroes which can be “customised to a certain extent, allowing players the fun of building a character that feels like their own.” Past From Software games allowed players to create their own characters but given the nature of The Duskbloods – being an eight-player PvPvE multiplayer title – it makes sense to reign in on the freedom players will have in character creation as to potentially not lose the identity of that specific Bloodsworn.
From Software has taken a similar approach with Elden Ring Nightreign, another multiplayer-focused co-op survival game launching next month. While the developer’s current focus on developing multiplayer titles is a bit concerning for long-time fans accustomed to their single-player-focused RPGs with lite multiplayer elements, From Software assured players that “single-player games will continue to be actively made” at the studio.
Back in October 2023, From Software job listings revealed that the developer was recruiting talent to work on multiple new projects. Apart from Elden Ring Nightreign and The Duskbloods, there’s a good chance we’ll see more single-player titles revealed in the near future.
The Duskbloods releases in 2026 exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2.
