Bethesda has announced The Elder Scrolls: Castles, a new mobile game inspired by the popular Fallout Shelter. Essentially, The Elder Scrolls: Castles is what you would expect a Fallout Shelter game to be like if it was skinned in fantasy, Elder Scrolls elements.
Players are tasked with building the perfect medieval kingdom, one piece of their castle at a time. They will need to manage the residents, fight beasts in the outer world and build and upgrade various aspects of their castle as they progress.
In the deep dive video, Bethesda shared how The Elder Scrolls: Castles opens up as players expand the game. A large focus is the game’s customization where players can take a standard room and skin it to their ideal theme.
Resident management is also key to success. Assigning the right people to the right job will keep the castle happy and improve its morale. Residents can also breed to increase the population. However, they can also rebel and overthrow a ruler if they are unhappy.
The game actually looks quite cool. The combat system features its own party system and gear management. At the same time, players can upgrade their combatants with different class skills to specc them into a specific playstyle.
There’s also a lot of Elder Scrolls love poured into the game with various lore references and throwbacks to previous games. I spotted the portal to the Shivering Isles in one clip. The portal was part of the DLC from The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
Of course, it is a mobile game so it will likely be ridden with in-game purchases, time-saver DLC and other horrible microtransactions. Let’s just hope the game doesn’t force these. Who am I kidding, it will probably be the worst.
The Elder Scrolls: Castes is launching on 10 September for iOS and Android. You can pre-register in the time being.
