The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remake Gameplay Updates Leaked

The rumoured remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion hasn’t even been announced yet and we’re already getting details on its gameplay updates. A new report has gone into detail about several gameplay improvements and upgrades coming to the remake over the original, which features quite dated gameplay at this point.

As for what we do know about The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake, it’s apparently being developed in-house at Bethesda alongside Virtuos Studios, the same studio currently co-leading development with Konami on the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. It’s reportedly being built in Unreal Engine 5 which means it will likely feature vastly improved visuals and performance.

According to MP1st, the website of a former Virtuos employee detailed a number of gameplay updates being implemented in the Oblivion remake. Firstly, the updated title is said to rework six gameplay systems: stamina, sneaking, blocking, archery, hit reaction and HUD. Blocking improvements were apparently inspired by Soulslike games while sneak icons are now highlighted in the updated systems.

The report goes on to state:

“The stamina system was modified to be less frustrating for the player, making the knockdown that occurs when stamina is depleted more difficult to activate through changes in calculation methods. The HUD was changed to make it easier to understand and more aesthetically appealing to young players. Hit reactions were also added to improve the response to damage inflicted on the player and NPCs. Finally, Archery was improved to make it more playable and modern in both third and first-person viewpoints.”

The events of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion take place over two hundred years before Skyrim and follows a custom-created character called the Hero of Kvatch who must rally together a fractured Cyrodiil to battle against an invading Daedric force when Oblivion gates begin opening all over Tamriel.

Bethesda Game Studios is currently hard at work on The Elder Scrolls 6, though it remains to be seen when it will actually release.
