Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remake Development Virtuos

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remake is Real and Coming in 2025 – Report

Rumours of a remake for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion first surfaced back in July 2023. Since then, Bethesda fans have waited with bated breath for an official announcement that never happened. However, to shed a bit of hope on the long-standing rumour, a new report claims that the remake is indeed real and could release in 2025.

According to insider and leaker eXtas1s, who has a decent track record of industry leaks, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake is real and might release in 2025 if all goes well. The leaker speculates that it could be revealed at a new Xbox Direct event in January, which seems like the perfect time to make the announcement.

Previous rumours suggest that it will be developed by Virtuos Studios, the company behind the recent Cyberpunk 2077 patch 2.2 and the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. The remake will also be built using Unreal Engine 5 and release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, which is following Xbox’s reported plans to not make any more exclusives going forward.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion originally released back in 2006 on Xbox 360 and PC and later on PS3 in 2007. It was a predecessor to Skyrim and told the story of a nameless prisoner, the Hero of Kvatch, who successfully aided Cyrodiil in pushing back against a Daedric invasion when oblivion gates began opening up all over the continent of Tamriel. Similar to other entries in the series, players are free to explore an open-world (in this case, the home of the Empire, Cyrodiil), choose various classes and factions as well as take on dozens of main and side quests.

It’s unclear if the remake will add anything new and make big changes or if it will remain faithful to the mechanics and features of the original title. Bethesda might want to update some of the game’s dated systems such as the skill tree and classes, though we’ll have to wait and see what’s in store for players.
